Third Place:
Voltron #10
The writing/art dichotomy continues unchecked in Voltron. Artist N. Steven Harris is doing everything he can to bring down this book, and writer Brandon Thomas continues fighting the good fight to keep it worth buying.
Keith and the team take the fight with the second Voltron unit to Arus and get a couple steps closer to finding out who's behind the attacks by this other robot. Hunk is also thinking about quitting and settling down.
Thomas knows what he's doing, but the art is murdering this book. Fingers crossed Harris only has two more issues and we get someone that can actually draw a comic.
Second Place:
Animal Man #17
Part One of the Rotworld finale finally puts Animal Man and Swamp Thing together to face down Anton Arcane.
After fighting rotten versions of Wonder Woman and The Flash they get enough of their shit together to make a real run at Arcane's castle... only to be faced with some seriously bad shit waiting there for them.
I had pretty high hopes for Rotworld, and its been entertaining, but I think those high hopes have resulted in Rotworld not roping me in like I really wanted it too.
First Place:
Swamp Thing #17
Well, as far as finale's go, that was okay?
There's a HUGE fight through Animal Man #17 and this issue of Swamp Thing and then at the end things kind of just get resolved. Just like that. I guess we'll have to see the fallout in the #18 issues of each book, but shouldn't the epilogue be in THIS book?
Also series regular Marco Rudy is off this issue replaced by Andrew Belanger. Yeah, I don't know who Andrew Belanger is either. His page layouts look like what Rudy and Yanic Paquette have been doing on this book, but the artwork within doesn't really work as well. This final chapter is going to stand out like a sore thumb when Rotworld is collected.
Panel of the Week:
Though I hate to credit N. Steven Harris with anything, this panel stood out to me this week.
