Sex Criminals #1
Sex Criminals #1 is a coming of age story that follows young Suzie as she explores her body as well as her time freezing abilities she gains after her orgasms. This first issue pairs the mystery discovering sex with the shock of gaining superpowers. If only she had been bitten by a radioactive dildo.
Writer Matt Fraction does a fine job of playing up the sense of isolation that one would feel with these two strange events colliding. Once Suzie learns that she can’t get the answers she is searching for from her widowed, alcoholic mother or clueless teachers and classmates she begins doing her own research on her abilities she has labeled The Quiet.
While Chip Zdarsky’s interior art is fine I’m a bigger fan of the cover designs. These designs are simple and elegant. I can’t get enough of them.
The story ends with the introduction of Jon, an actor blessed with identical powers. I’m intrigued as to what kind of trouble these young lovers can get into and can’t wait to finish the first arc. Anyone who enjoys an intimate story about being intimate will have a blast with Sex Criminals. -Soss
