The kickoff to Marvel’s summer event is here. This first issue set’s the stage to answer the question “Who Shot The Watcher?” Before we can answer said question, Mark Waid, Jim Cheung and Paco Medina dive deep into his back story.
What is Uatu, the Watcher, looking for? This is the question posed to Iron Man and Captain America by Sam Alexander, the newest Nova. Apparently two of Marvel’s mightiest, most veteran heroes have never considered this question. This attempt to thrust Nova into the center of the tale came off as totally forced. The kid has been on the job two weeks and he’s out smarting Tony Stark? Sorry, not buying it.
Nova then travels to the moon to give Uatu a rock and ask him about his deadbeat dad. Along the way he stumbles upon the Watcher's origin and what can happen if Uatu interferes with the destiny of the universe.
The Watcher's origin story and fine pencil work by Jim Cheung and Paco Medina make this book an interesting enough read and has captured my interest to see how this years event plays out. -Soss
Panel of the Week: All of the panels are taken from different moments that Jim Cheung has drawn over the years.
