Gint's 4-30-14 Pull-List Review

Amazing Spider-Man and He-Man are the only books worthy of the Pull-List this week. Lets see how they did...

Second Place:
The Amazing Spider-Man #1

I've never bought a Spider-Man monthly before. Trade paperbacks, yes, but not the monthly issues. Until now. This relaunch now that Peter Parker is back in his own body seemed a good place to pick it up. Dan Slott does a nice job getting new readers caught up by walking Peter through his new life. Peter, mostly oblivious to all the changes Doctor Octopus made while inhabiting his body for over a year.

Humberto Ramos draws a great issue. His cartoony style and the bright colors by Edgar Delgado set the perfect tone for a fun Spider-Man book. Unlike some other titles that word best dark and moody, Spider-Man should always have a sense of fun. Slott, Ramos and Co. provide.

This issue was $6 and has some other backup stories in it, but I'm excited to get issue #2 when the book really gets down to business.

First Place:
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe #12

Man, Dan Abnett isn't afraid of shaking things up in Eternia. In the last couple issues he's killed King Randor and made Teela the new Sorceress who commands the Snake Men. Granted, we're in a land of magic and mulligans, so its relatively easy to get back to the original status quo. But its refreshing seeing these changes being used, even if its temporary.

Tom Derenick is back on art and does a suitable job. His work fits the world of Eternia and perfectly depicts a modern He-Man in a comic book. The love and care being put into these comics from Dan Abnett and the rest of the creative team shouldn't be overlooked. Abnett seems to have quite a story planned out that is more than just a paycheck.

In these days of dropping books (notice Green Lantern: New Guardians Annual #2 isn't on this Pull-List) its nice to sit down and really enjoy a book. Thanks, DC.

Panel of the Week:

He-Man and Stratos. The price is too great... for love?
