Soss' Pull-List Reviews 12/6/12

Iron Man #2
A group of religious ninjas want to test their armor against Tony's new Iron Man suit. Man..... this book is going nowhere fast.

This continues the hit and miss trend of Marvel NOW! titles. Some deliver on the promise of fresh takes and new ideas while other serve up yesterday's leftovers.

Greg Land has let me down two issues in a row. I buy his comics for the hilarious, over the top "illustrations" that look as if they were pulled straight out of People magazine. However I've had no such luck so far with Iron Man. Come on Greg, make me laugh!

Catwoman #14
The Joker is relentless in his attempts to have Catwoman leave Batman's life for good. It's a strange angle for Joker to take. He is convinced that Batman's feelings for Catwoman make him a lesser adversary. Why does he care about who The Dark Knight bangs on the rooftops of Gotham?

I liked Rafa Sandoval's art but even with the change in creative teams they somehow still got Selina Kyle in her underwear. Maybe those looney comic book feminists have a point.....

The Boys #72
This once great series went out with a "meh" instead of a bang. No big revaluations and since they spent the past four months killing the entire cast of this book there wasn't much left to do in the final issue.

It was nice to see Darrick Robertson back for one last victory lap. I wasn't a huge fan of his work in the beginning but his style slowly grew on me. I still maintain the Steve Dillon would have made this book a instant classic.

I did really like the sappy, sentiment final panel. I'm a sucker for nostalgic callbacks from early issues.

While this was far from a perfect series I still enjoyed most of the seventy two issues and look forward to reading it all in one big chunk. -Soss

Panel of The Week: A nice emotional payoff for long time readers
