And I'll Form The Afro
The more you learn about race and LGBTQ as an adult, coupled with watching DVDs of the cartoons you grew up with, the more you realize the creators of those cartoons hated blacks and gays. That maybe a bit extreme. But there's a reason Lando Calrissian is the gold standard for black guys in science fiction/fantasy: because he's the best one. And he's nearly the only one.
He-Man, Transformers, Voltron, Star Wars... all the biggies were severely crackerfied. G.I. Joe had Roadblock and eventually Mr. T, plus Scarlett and Lady Jaye. And we all know Panthro was really black. Lets be honest.
As $oss points out in the strip above, kids don't pay attention to that stuff. I generally don't like kids. At all. But they have that going for them.
A side note that I didn't realize until lately, they don't actually form Voltron until the fourth episode of the series. A pretty bold move for a show that was pretty light on depth.
