Dr. Who Gives A Fuck

Twitter lit on fire this past week when comic writer/artist Tony Harris said something to the effect of "fat girls shouldn't dress up as sexy comic chicks if they're not real fans," or something like that. Harris took a beating on the internet.

It brought to mind again the question of one's "nerditude." How true of a nerd are you? What does that take and are you nerd enough to fit the bill? I dislike some tried and true nerd shit. The Dark Knight Returns, and pretty much anything Frank Miller has done is crap. But folks love it. Dr. Who is a HUGE part of nerdom. I've never seen it and don't really have any desire to.

What being a nerd comes down to is really just liking what you like no matter what other people like. Isn't that what makes the traditional definition of nerds being outcasts true in the first place?

I get mad when I see someone clearly too young to appreciate say, a Silverhawks t-shirt, but ultimately I'm just happy that the brand is getting some play. Its easy to be exclusive when it comes to our sideways interests, but it just helps out the entire nerd (comic) community if we'd be a little more inclusive.

There's your Mc$oss PSA for the day.

  1. This is what I love about you - your absolute confidence in your likes and dislikes.

I think being inclusive is huge. For instance, I could make a gay film with some gay people and that'd be that [and that'd be gay]. But if we make it together [snicker], think of the possibilities!

  2. A firm opinion is the bond that brings WonderTwins together.

No reason we all can't get involved in making art by everyone for everyone. Or BeFe, the name of my new urban clothing line. And in the process we make a bigger star of Rachel Weisz (so hot) than she is already!
