I hate Marvel's initiative to restart it's books with fresh, shiny #1's on the cover. I'm aware that most companies do this but Marvel has made an art form of it. Didn't we just do a soft reboot with Marvel NOW!? This new reboot is called All-New Marvel NOW!? So last year was NOW!........when will then be NOW!? I'm told soon.
My major problem with all this rebooting is that it interrupts the momentum of the great storytelling. For my money Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic's Thor: God of Thunder is the quintessential take on Thor. The inspired time jumping between Viking, Avenger and Old King Thor coupled with the amazing visuals made that book special. It's a shame to see such a great book go by the wayside so we can have a new number #1 to sell with a new headline grabbing main character.
This book has little to do with the new, mysterious female Thor since she only appears on the last panel. The bulk of the story sets up the circumstances of why there needs to be a new Thor which isn't bad. My recommendation is for you to go out and buy Thor: God of Thunder #1-25 to truly appreciate what will be coming next. -Soss
