Soss' 3-5-14 Pull-List Review

iZombie Vol #1: Dead To The World

iZombie follows Gwen Dylan, a zombie who passes as a regular girl during the day. In order not to regress into a standard mindless member of the walking dead, Gwen must eat a brain at least once a month. In addition to being extremely nutritious and low in fat, the brains Gwen ingests have her inherit the memoires of the deceased. Gwen is also joined by Ellie, a ghost girl from the 1960s and Scott, a were-terrier as she tries to lay low in the sleepy town of Eugene, Oregon.

The first arc focuses on a mysterious man named Amon and how he is connected to a murder Gwen is investigating. Chris Roberson and Michael Allred do a wonderful job thematically and visually with this book. Allred’s retro style gives the book a feel of a more adult Scooby-doo where the monsters are the ones solving the mysteries. This book is currently being adapted for television and from all reports it sounds like major changes are taking place to the characters and story structure. I’d recommend getting in now and checking out iZombie in the format it was meant to be enjoyed in. -Soss
