Market Saturation

If you don't know there's a Spider-Man movie coming out in a month, you literally live under a rock. Sony/Marvel has been promoting this movie non-stop. AND we still have a month to go before it releases May 2. I've stopped watching clips and trailers because they've been showing so much, I already feel like I've seen half the movie. Is it possible to be tired of this movie before I've even seen it? All signs point to yes.

With a month to go there will no doubt be more Spider-promotion. But even being a comic book fan, and being excited for this movie once, I'm ready for it to be over. Promotion for a movie has to walk a fine line. The Three Bears of May releases have been all over the board: Amazing Spider-Man 2 - too much, Godzilla - not enough, and X-Men: Days of Future Past - just right.

With nearly two months before Godzilla and Days release in back to back weeks, we've gotten just enough tip of the X-Men dick to tease and tantalize. Godzilla has us asking, "is it in yet?" Godzilla has absolutely no television presence besides a Snickers commercial that pokes more fun at the gargantuan lizard than it does gear audiences up for the movie. X-Men commercials come in bits and pieces and hopefully they don't blow it out Spider-Man-style before its release.

The Spider-boat has since sailed. Too much, too soon. Spider-fatigue? Yes. Will I be there opening night? Yes.
