This week the conclusion to Breaking Point hit the stands. With the image of Kitty Pryde’s slashed throat still fresh in mind I strapped in for the expected thrill ride. To my dismay and despite the masterful work on this arc so far, the finale fell flat.
The resolution of Pryde’s apparent death was very confusing (she died then was brought back to life when Haleena sacrifices herself who was then resurrected by Krunn...geez). Not the most well thought out plot device. Krunn, the former BreakWorld PowerLord who has spent the last 3 issues attempting to destroy the X-Men ends this arc helping our hero's ...clean trash off the streets of San Francisco? I can at least say that I didn’t see that one coming.
One positive to take out of all this jumbled mess is the Shadowcat is now back to normal. Things look serene and peaceful heading into Schism. While not interested in the actual events of this upcoming event I’m thrilled the teams will be broken in two. One cast featured in Astonishing, one in Uncanny. Is it necessary to roll out a whole event to make this simple editorial adjustment?
While the ending to Breaking Point was subpar I still maintain my high praise for Kieron Gillen. This arc was the best X related tale I’ve read in years and I look forward to Gillen’s future efforts with Marvels mutants. The Dodson’s art is nothing short of breathtaking. Without a doubt they are my favorite penciler/inker duo going right now.-$
Panel of the Week: An outstanding spread of the X-Men’s charge to battle with Krunn.
