The Boys # 55
This is it! The revelations that we have been waiting years for are finally here! Hughie’s conversation with team founder Mallory exposes the following shocking developments. What is the true meaning of the name "The Boys"? It was an off the cuff comment made by Butcher one day during lunch. I guess it’s better then Mallory’s suggestion of Unit X. Revelation #2, it turns out Butcher is ....... a crazy son of a bitch. Really? We needed a mysterious long-lost team leader to tell us something we’ve known since issue #1?

It saddens me to admit that Garth Ennis has let me down two weeks in a row. I know every comic can’t change my outlook on the world, but it was a huge disappointment reading these bland pseudo secrets. I’ve followed this title from the start and have been generally pleased with each months offerings. To my dismay it appears that The Boys is heading down the preverbal creative hillside and not climbing it. With the series slated to end at issue #72 it appears that a title that began with such promise and controversy will fizzle out with a whimper.

Moon Knight #2
Who is The Kingpin of California? We don't find out the answer this month but Moon Knight comes one step closer as his search leads him to a strip club that apparently trains assassins. It must be one heck of a training program judging from how quickly they kick his ass. Isn't he supposed to be a card carrying member of The Avengers? Lucky for him Echo just happened to be working undercover at said strip club and comes to his rescue.

Gint would take issue with Alex Maleev's hectic, sketchy style but I find it to be the perfect fit on this noir-super hero title. Building on the foundation of it's strong debut, Bendis and Maleev look to continue delivering quality for the foreseeable future.

Fear Itself #3
After two issues of plodding buildup we get to the meat of the story. The opening scene is a battle that did not start in the pages of the previous issue. Clearly Marvel intends for the reader to purchase all 100 spin off titles. After a couple pages I forgot that I didn't know how the story reached this point, I was intrigued as to where it was going. Not quite perfect storytelling, but it was effective nonetheless.

On Asgard, Loki and a group of Asgardian warriors attempt to free Thor from imprisonment at the hands of his father. While back on Earth, the remaining heros desperately wait for reinforcements. But as the Panel of the Week details, it's going to be too late for some.

Despite the confusion at the start of the book, this was by far the most engaging chapter of Fear Itself. Matt Fraction escalated not only the action but also the urgency of the situation. Stuart Immonen continues to make his case as one of Marvels brightest stars with his efforts on this title. The final page displaying Bucky's torn body can only be described as chilling. This was a fun read and I'm excited to see how this story unfolds.
