East of West: Volume #1
A dystopian future with a western flair. Sounds like this should be right up my alley. Did I forget to mention that Jonathan Hickman writes this book? Yeah... that changes everything.
The story begins in the Civil War but quickly moves to the year 2066 as we follow The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Death is on the path for revenge and appears to be manipulating a secret society that controls this version of Earth. By the end of this book we learn that his true quest is to be reunited with his wife. Wait, Death has a wife?
I don’t know why I keep trying to make myself like Hickman’s work. The general idea for his stories always intrigues me but five pages in and I am usually lost thanks to his confusing storytelling style. Nick Dragotta’s artwork is wonderful but I couldn’t really enjoy it since I was too busy figuring out what was going on. -Soss
