Happy Black History Month, everybody! The truth behind this strip is that I think Snake-Eyes SHOULD be African-American. Or African-Asian. Through my entire childhood I imagined Snake-Eyes AND Destro as being black. Maybe Destro because he was always a playa. J'onn J'onzz, DC's Martian Manhunter's human form will also always be black to me.
The common denominator is that Jazz, Panthro, Hotwing and Martian Manhunter were all voiced by black actors. Each actor made their character an essential part of the cartoons they were part of and left indelible marks on myself, and I'm sure millions of other kids around the world.
So here's to all of the African-American actors in front and behind the camera that made my childhood better for them having played a part in it.
