Batwoman: Hydrology
This hardcover novel covers the debut of the New 52 version of Batwoman, a.k.a. Kate Kane. For those of you not familiar with Batwoman, she is a cousin of Bruce Wayne's who took up the mantle of the bat while Bruce was sent back in time by a magic bullet. Thanks again for that one Morrison.
This first arc revolves around the disappearance of several Gotham children that seem to be linked to an old folk tale. The Weeping Woman is a mystical spirit that kidnaps young children and drowns them just as her own were years ago. Is this ghost the real deal or is it something even more sinister?
While the story is interesting the real hero of the book is the art. No one in the industry illustrates quite like J.H. Williams. His style changes from page to page, panel to panel depending on what is happening in the story. All of his shots of Batwoman look like beautifully crafted oil paintings. His panels are works of art all by themselves. The way he interweaves each piece is truly masterful. It is a real treat when Kane comes face to face with The Weeping Woman. Ghostly shit indeed.
While I'm not sure that Gotham city needs another crime fighter running around dressed as a bat there is no denying the Batwoman is a quality book that is a nice addition to the Bat Family. -$
Panel of the Week: I picked this page but it honestly could have been any page in this hardcover. This book is a work of art!
