This past week The House of Ideas hit us up with their newest one. Marvel NOW! is the next chapter in the ongoing saga of the Marvel Universe. Not to be confused with a reboot or even a reimagining in the style of DC's The New 52, Marvel NOW! is being referred to as a "creative refreshing" following the events of AXV.
There are positives and negatives to this deal. Yes, Marvel is in grave need of a refresh but judging by the first few press releases it doesn't appear drastic enough. I don't want to get to crazy before all the facts are out but I would hope that Marvel would take a page out of the playbook of it's Distinguished Competition and shine a light on the darker corners of the 616. Where are the titles comparable to Swamp Thing or Animal Man? Isn't it time that Marvel treat the Marvel MAX line with the same care that goes into Vertigo?

And lastly, damn guys…can we do better with the titles? Uncanny Avengers? All-New X-Men? Hulk and the Agents of Smash? I'd like to think that Joe Q didn't run with the first things that popped in his head, but it's not likely.
All that said I'm fired up for this October. With creative talent like Rick Remender and John Cassaday on Uncanny Avengers, Brian Bendis and Stuart Immonen on All-New X-Men, and Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena on Avengers there are sure to be some great books in my reading future. -$
