Nothing like a short and sweet week of comics. On one hand, I'm sad DC is dropping the ball with so many books I used to love. On the other, spending $8 a week on comics ain't so bad.
Star Wars #11
The biggest issue I had with this book was the introduction of some metal that a lightsaber has a hard time cutting through. To the best of my knowledge a lightsaber doesn't have a problem cutting through anything. Forgive me if I don't want the lore of this incredible weapon lessened by giving it a weakness.
Other than that the book was pretty good... per usual. Jason Aaron and Stuart Immonen are a pretty solid team. What I didn't expect from Aaron is his knack for writing C-3PO dialog. You may as well have Anthony Daniels reading the book to you over your shoulder. Though I'm not excited about the James Robinson "how Threepio got his red arm" one-shot, it IS nice to see Threepio get some real play and respect in this issue. Especially after his castration in the prequels. Its time to respect C-3PO again.
Wow. I'm a little surprised at my passion for a good C-3PO. Huh.
Nailbiter #17
The mystery deepens three weeks later. This is a bit of a problem for my dumb brain since I don't remember what happened last issue. We're sort of caught up to speed, but I'm still like, "okay, I'm just gonna roll with it."
The plight of Agent Barker is really bumming me out. If that's the goal of Joshua Williamson and Mike Henderson, then mission accomplished. Quite a while back she was captured, and (from what I can remember – it was a long time ago) she was forced to watch people get tortured and dismembered. This has resulted in Barker having crazy murderous visions leading the reader to believe she's going to be the next Buckaroo Butcher. I hope not. I really like the character and want to see her overcome this psychosis.
Heck of a book being created buy these guys. The three week jump was a touch confusing but the reset of the new status quo has a lot of potential going forward.
Panel of the Week:
The coloring on this panel of C-3PO getting electrocuted (courtesy Justin Ponsor) is realyl spectacular.
