Regret

Michael Bay's stink is going to hang on the Transformers for a long time. But that's the opinion of a jaded 36 year old who grew up loving the 1980s cartoon and toys as much as a boy could love anything. The unfortunate truth is, those Transformers are probably gone forever.

When Michael Bay hands the reins over to a new director (he will right, I mean, he can't stay on this franchise forever) the new regime will have to incorporate some of the groundwork Bay has laid down. The two biggest eras for Transformers have been in the 80s and this current one starting with Transformers in 2007. By the time the franchise gets rebooted, it would be smart for the creative team to incorporate a little bit of both to appease us old heads and the new generation that grew up with Michael Bay (those poor souls).

I guess this is a hard realization for me. There was a time I thought I'd get a live action Transformers movie that honored the source material. We get farther from that all the time and that just makes it harder to go back.

That's not to say there's no chance I'd like a reboot. I suppose there's hope. Afterall, the guys currently directing and making these decisions are roughly my age. And unless there's something wrong with you, if you're my age, you loved the Generation 1 Transformers.

Until then I guess I'll keep writing comics about Optimus Prime selling his soul to the devil and eventually trying to hang himself because he can't face another day of living with the current movies he's made.
