The writers of Superman over the years have felt the need to endow him with more and more powers that are unnecessary, even for a superbeing. When he was first created he couldn't even fly let alone have microscopic vision or the ability to read a USB drive just by looking at it. The heaping-on of even more powers takes what should be a relatable character and pushes him further from the realm of ordinary guy, which is kind of Clark's schtick.
But aside from the extra powers, what really takes away Clark's ability to be "one of us" (not to quote 90s inspiration Joan Osborne) is having him not do the simple things like eat, sleep or have a beer. Granted, the beer thing is more Warner Bros./DC than the creators, but by taking away the simple things that go unnoticed like Clark needing a nap, or just wanting a really good hamburger, you take away a subtlety of the character that would go along way in our subconscious to making him more relatable. And by extension, likeable.
