I don't question the muse. When you're moderately creative and force your brain to write roughly two strips a week for as long as I have, your attitude toward ideas is devil may care.
Sometimes a comic just pops in there fully written and all you need to do is draw it. Other times you get the tiniest sliver of a joke and have to blacksmith the hell out of it until it's fit to publish. So when you wake up to the thought, "Ian's dad's into Circus Porn," you let it ride.
And that's exactly what happened with the above. I don't remember the details of the dream. Those have been lost to the sandman upon waking. But that one sliver of Ian's pops being into the three ring shuffle remained.
The muse works in mysterious ways.
