1872 #1 focuses on a section of Battleworld that is set in the American wild west. All the familiar faces can be found in the Valley of Doom, Sheriff Steve Rogers, town drunk and inventor Tony Stark, scientist and outcast Bruce Banner.
No one in the town of Timely has superpowers so if you were expecting superheroes in the wild west this might not be book for you. Luckily writer Gerry Duggan nails the emotional core and motivations for each of the main characters. Nik Virella’s style isn’t overly gritty and fits the old time west environment well.
While Secret Wars have had some hits and misses 1872 #1 is a immersive and enjoyable read with interesting takes on all your old favorites. -Soss
