Ant-Man #1
Writer Nick Spencer and artist Ramon Romana deliver their take on the Scott Lang version of Ant-Man and just in time for the movie! I’m not very familiar with this version of Ant-Man. He is a down on his luck ex-Avenger with a pissed off ex-wife, a dump of an apartment and a criminal past. The first issue sets the stage as he interviews for the Stark Industries Head of Security position in order to provide for his daughter.
The overall lighthearted tone reminds me of what Matt Fraction was doing on Hawkeye. I am getting a little worried that all the B and C list Marvel heroes are receiving the same “quirky” treatment. Is it still quirky if its mainstream?
If the tone of the upcoming movie is similar to this book I think I’ll be happy. Lang’s interaction with his daughter is heartwarming and Spencer does a great job of making this book funny but not overly goofy. -Soss
