There is no doubt in the grand scheme of black sci-fi/comic characters, that Lando Calrissian would pilot Soultron. I know there will be push for Sam Jackson's Nick Fury or Mace Windu (spiritual brother and all that), or Nichelle Nichols' Uhura (which is a great call now that I think about it). Even Laurence Fishburn's Morpheus would score some points, but he's too aloof to get his hands dirty and run that team. Lando's got it all.
Aside from being soul-powered, Lando was able to run an entire city. This would no doubt help him liaise with the Arus bureaucracy, and also manage the other four Space Explorers under his charge. He's a man of the people who (after The Empire Strikes Back of course) finds his place among the straight-up hero set.
Who else would round out my Soultron team?
- Will Smith's Captain Steven Hiller from Independence Day (already a pilot).
- Gina Torres' Zoe Washburne from Firefly (strong willed, extremely capable, and a great second in command).
- Jasika Nicole's Astrid Farnsworth from Fringe (unassuming and tech saavy).
- And we'll round it out with Idris Elba as the muscle since he's bound to be in something comic-related any minute now.
I stayed away from characters with superpowers to more closely resemble the dynamics of the original Voltron Force. Which is why Luke Cage and Black Lightning didn't make the team.
